Facebook will be your new phone. Yes, I said your phone.

Facebook has been growing at an incredible rate. It currently has over 400 million users worldwide, and has even surpassed Google.com in page views. Facebook has been creating ways for people to interact with its service outside of their website. Most notably, Facebook has created links between it's service and unrelated sites to gather and share your information. This creates a presence for Facebook outside of its now contained website. People already use mobile Facebook applications on their smart phones, and certain features phones, like the Microsoft Kin, have already integrated Facebook into the mobile operating system.

The pieces of the puzzle start becoming clear. Facebook is not only trying to become a destination service, they want to be a part of your entire Internet experience. In short, Facebook wants to be everywhere you use the web. This includes your mobile phone. Facebook recently acquired an Android engineer. My prediction is that Facebook is going to create a mobile OS that is heavily integrated with it's service and partners. It might even be based on the open source solution that Android provides. With millions of users, and billions of dollars surely Facebook can market a phone successfully. If enough ads are served they could even subsidize the cost of what can sometimes be an expensive device. Many web "newbies" login to Facebook to do everything - email (Facebook messages), chat with friends, play casual games or even watch YouTube videos, or read news articles; all of which can be done without going to Google or another website.

With Android phones finally taking off, Microsoft coming out with a compelling new mobile OS, HP's purchase of WebOS, and Apple's new phone the smart phone space will be getting tighter and tighter. Facebook wants a piece of the pie.

If you think I'm off my rocker say so in the comments below.
