25 Frightening Fast Food Futures

The McDonald's ™ artificial heart makes material the converging trajectories of our litigious civil justice system, McDonald's always under-recognized sense of social responsibility, America's irreversible descent into socialized medicine, and the increasingly blurred lines of industry and government. A truer and more tangible expression of our inevitable dystopian future, we have not seen.

Stephen Baldwin needs your money.
Why? Because he's being prosecuted for his faith...at least this is what his spiritual advisor claims. If you go to http://www.restorestephenbaldwin.org, you can donate to help Stephen's cause.

Poor soul. An excellent actor that has been left behind because of his faith. It's not his fault he is the only Baldwin brother that turned out to be a moron. Just blame his religion.

If you are a fellow idiot, please help Stephen's cause.

Q- Why doesn't his family help him?
A- His family feels his Christianity was his choice and his responsibility.

Q- Why does Stephen need personal wealth?
A- Stephen’s influence is in Hollywood. Hollywood worships money and without it you are seen as a loser and cannot be an effective influence to this group.

Facebook will be your new phone. Yes, I said your phone.

Facebook has been growing at an incredible rate. It currently has over 400 million users worldwide, and has even surpassed Google.com in page views. Facebook has been creating ways for people to interact with its service outside of their website. Most notably, Facebook has created links between it's service and unrelated sites to gather and share your information. This creates a presence for Facebook outside of its now contained website. People already use mobile Facebook applications on their smart phones, and certain features phones, like the Microsoft Kin, have already integrated Facebook into the mobile operating system.

The pieces of the puzzle start becoming clear. Facebook is not only trying to become a destination service, they want to be a part of your entire Internet experience. In short, Facebook wants to be everywhere you use the web. This includes your mobile phone. Facebook recently acquired an Android engineer. My prediction is that Facebook is going to create a mobile OS that is heavily integrated with it's service and partners. It might even be based on the open source solution that Android provides. With millions of users, and billions of dollars surely Facebook can market a phone successfully. If enough ads are served they could even subsidize the cost of what can sometimes be an expensive device. Many web "newbies" login to Facebook to do everything - email (Facebook messages), chat with friends, play casual games or even watch YouTube videos, or read news articles; all of which can be done without going to Google or another website.

With Android phones finally taking off, Microsoft coming out with a compelling new mobile OS, HP's purchase of WebOS, and Apple's new phone the smart phone space will be getting tighter and tighter. Facebook wants a piece of the pie.

Twitter Improves Trending Topic Algorithm

Finally! Maybe "Good Morning" & "Good Night" will stop being on the trending topics and actually be useful.

---

Twitter has updated the algorithm behind its popular Trending Topics feature, changing the focus from the most discussed items to what is “most breaking” and “immediately popular.”

Twitter confirmed to Mashable that on Wednesday it made updates to improve the relevancy of trending topics. In the past, trending topics were dominated by consistently popular items (e.g. Justin Bieber) with little regard as to what was “hot” at any given moment.

Here’s how Twitter explained the new changes in an update to the Help section:

“The new algorithm identifies topics that are immediately popular, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis, to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world. (We had previously built in this ‘emergent’ algorithm for all local trends, described below.) We think that trending topics which capture the hottest emerging trends and topics of discussion on Twitter are the most interesting.”
